2014 Morgan Monroe State Forest in April

We spent a very pleasant day hiking the Three Lakes Trail at Morgan-Monroe State Forest. We met at 8 am and headed south. We stopped at the park office and got maps, parked at the trailhead, walked down the hill and were on the trail by 9:30. We spent the next several hours hiking, crossing streams, navigating the switchbacks, enjoying the views of some early wildflowers and the sounds of birds in the trees. The weather was perfect for hiking, mid 60's and slightly overcast.  We stopped for lunch about halfway around, at a picnic table overlooking Bryant Creek Lake. We stopped again a couple of times to take packs off and adjust footwear. We missed doing the last loop around Cherry Tree Lake, but our mileage came out to about 9.5 miles.

We saw the sign for "Cherry Tree Lodge" and went to investigate. There was a driveway that was chained off and it led to a cabin. We looked in the windows and walked out on the deck. There was a sign that said to check with the park office for reservation info. Looks like you can reserve it through VRBO for $150 a night, link below.

We also had a discussion about socks (compression knee highs, socks too big bunching up, etc.) and it was timely because yesterday Backbacker posted an article called the "Gear Hall of Fame: Socks"!
